The pictures above are the gang known as Stone Timbers. I, John Merritt, am the head evil genius and Jennifer (the one without the goatee) is my partner in crime. The picture to the right is of our minions, Elmer and Andy. We have another minion, Jasper, but he was too busy playing with his chew toy and declined being photographed.

I have a passion for the beauty in nature and create polished rock and wood items to show that beauty. Those items include geodes, thunder eggs, rock slabs, crystals and fossils and band saw boxes that make great decorative pieces. I also create jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc.) featuring stone cabochons that I cut. All my items make great gifts.

Most of my items are created in the garage and kitchen. Jennifer loves it when production takes over the kitchen (NOT!). The kitchen is always being used since starting the business.

I had always found rocks interesting since seeing my grandparent’s collection when I was a small child. However, I didn’t become an active rockhound until later in life, 2007. The idea behind becoming a rockhound was a fun and inexpensive (joke was on me, it is expensive) activity that would encourage me to exercise. It wasn’t long before there were rocks everywhere so to relieve the clutter and supplement the hobby I started selling my creations.

Stone Timbers was started in May of 2019 after I learned that my IT position was going to be eliminated in a company merger. Now I am a full time dirt nerd and stick cutter.

Since this page was first written, almost five years ago, we have started to make other types of art work. Acrylic paintings are our newest products and will soon be posted in our blog and available in our online store and sales booth at events.
